OPEN CALL FOR PEOPLE IN MENOPAUSE
Julidans, the International Festival of Contemporary Dance in Amsterdam, is looking for dance enthusiasts who identify as women and/or are experiencing menopause to take part in the special performance When the Bleeding Stops. This work by Icelandic choreographer Lovísa Ósk Gunnarsdóttir is part of an international project that connects women going through menopause, collects their stories, and creates space to dance together.
About Julidans...
From 2 to 13 July 2025, the 35th edition of Julidans will take place. With Internationaal Theater Amsterdam as its festival centre, idiosyncratic dancemakers present their latest performances in various theatres in Amsterdam. Additionally, we organize outdoor projects, staged at various locations in Amsterdam.

When the Bleeding Stops by Lovísa Ósk Gunnarsdóttir addresses the silence, the taboo that seems to surround the menopause, as well as personal experiences of ageing. The performative piece shows a world of vulnerability, shame, empathy and humor. It delves into the many layers of personal experiences associated with menopause. When the Bleeding Stops celebrates life in all its phases! After touring 21 cities with this work, award-winning dancer and choreographer Lovísa Ósk Gunnarsdóttir is now coming to Amsterdam.
Therefore, we are looking for women (and/or menopausal persons), living in Amsterdam who want to join and dance in When the Bleeding Stops. No dance or stage experience is required! The project language is English.
Participate?
Participation begins at the end of May and initially takes place online. It includes a personal exchange with the choreographer and dancing in your own living room. During this process, short videos may be created and parts of them shown on stage after consultation with the participants. Additionally, participants are invited to take part in the performances and dance on stage.
When?
To take part, you need to be available on the following dates:
- Online workshop: Late May (exact date to be confirmed)
- On-site workshop at Frascati: Friday 4 July, in the afternoon (time TBC)
- Performances at Frascati Theatre:
o Saturday 5 July at 18:30
o Sunday 6 July at 18:30
o Monday 7 July at 18:30
