"Andreas Hannes has elevated the skip to a matter of the heart and mind" (de Volkskrant).

Stedelijk Museum and Julidans jointly present a skipping performance by Andreas Hannes in the Schiphol Entrance of the museum. Do not be misled by this simple qualification. There is indeed skipping. But that leads to unexpected heights.

Julidans EXTENDED

Starting time 8.15 p.m.

Together they form one body that moves dynamically through space.

"Hannes takes the audience for a ride and plays with expectations. By constantly giving his choreography a new twist, he allows us to experience a sense of infinity in all simplicity," Theaterkrant wrote in 2018.

Tremble is a sequel to Hannes’ graduation project The City (2018), in which the choreographer, dancer and percussionist also used the skipping movement. In Tremble, Hannes, together with a group of dancers, embarks on a journey without a destination. They move in geometric patterns across the floor, falling in and out of rhythm. Together they form one body that moves dynamically through space. Thanks also to the rhythmic soundtrack, you are sucked into the flow of the dancers. As if you were sitting, trembling, on a moving vehicle, you undergo a road trip full of memories, associations, and desires.

The father of the Greek-born Hannes is a musician. His son followed in his footsteps: Hannes studied music and percussion at university, where he also discovered his great passion for film. In 2010, Hannes came to the Netherlands, where he started working as a director and producer of short films. -|-In addition, he was in charge of Small House Productions, an international platform for interdisciplinary projects. There he created his first dance works, that led him to start a dance education (School for New Dance Development in Amsterdam).

It almost goes without saying, with that background, that Hannes freely experiments with what you can do in a dance performance. His performances (and the music in them) can certainly be called eclectic. On Tremble, he says: “The definition of dance in theatre is for me: coming together. In this performance, we don’t hold hands, don’t look at each other constantly, but we are building continuously towards the idea of what it means to be together. Even though there is distance between us, we are connected. Distance reveals the systems that bind us. Just like in music, it is in the in-between of bodies that our understanding of space and time lies. It is where dance appears and when magic and wonder are generated.”.
