ELENIT is een universum waarin je compleet kunt verdwijnen. 'Totaal hypnotiserend. Dans, theater, performance, happening, installatie. Een werk buitencategorie en dus uniek' - To Tetarto Koudouni.

Completely hypnotizing

The Greek choreographer and theatre maker Euripides Laskarides calls ELENIT a tragicomedy about the perseverance of people in doomed situations. Ten dancers are held hostage by a gigantic wind turbine, a machine that knows no past or future. All that matters is survival in the now. Laskarides creates a fabulous underworld full of references to painting, opera, musical and ancient tragedy, as well as to contemporary club culture and film. It starts with everyday images and situations, which become increasingly absurd, puzzling and disturbing. ELENIT is a journey through an unknown landscape; destroyed and ruined, yet at the same time irresistibly fascinating. “A wonderful attempt to understand a monstrous world.”

- ElCulture.

In 2017, Laskarides’ TITANS was shown at the festival as a Julidans co-production. The Greek choreographer had only been in the international spotlights for barely a year, but his talent was unmistakable. With his international breakthrough RELIC, he immediately performed at 22 international festivals. Laskaridis learned his trade from directors such as Robert Wilson and Dimitri Papaioannou and from there developed his own style with Greek and American influences. The common thread in his work is the theme of change, transformation. Also always present: Laskarides’ sense of humour. He always brings his serious subjects with a good dose of irony. ELENIT demonstrates this in a masterful way.

“This performance is neurotic and comical, tragic and sarcastic. It is recognisable and yet distant, and moving. The heroes of that world are on the other side and try to persuade you to go on a journey of discovery.” - ElCulture.
