Bold movement installation about trust, in yourself and in others.

With her unique performance art, the Canadian Dana Michel questions notions of physicality and cultural identity in unconventional movement installations. The solo performance MIKE highlights the need to trust each other. Otherwise, how can we hold our own in this complex world?

Julidans
Main programme

run time 180 minutes
location Internationaal Theater Amsterdam
venue Studio 1

MIKE is an ongoing installation. With an entrance ticket, it is possible to walk in- and out of the performance space.

Dana Michel's work is best described in terms of the influences she draws from for her work: she mixes intuitive improvisation, sculpture, hip-hop, comedy, film and social observations to create experiences that can throw you – as a viewer – considerably off your balance.

At an earlier edition of Julidans, Michel already made a great impression with her views on (repressed) cultural identity and sexual experience. In this edition, the Canadian artist poses in the three-hour continuous movement installation MIKE as a living sculpture, viewable from all sides. -|-The setting could not have been better chosen: in MIKE, Michel focuses on other ways of looking at others as well as yourself – and how you then behave towards each other.

Dana Michel started studying contemporary dance when she was already in her late twenties. Before that, she was a marketing manager, a competitive runner and a football player. In 2017, she received the Silver Lion for Innovation in Dance at the Venice Biennale.
