Sorry, there are currently no available shows.

Choreographer Femke Gyselinck (one of GRIP's artistic directors) researched the ambiguity of the form of letters, and their possible translation into movement. The result became the performance Letters 2 Dance, which was shown during Julidans 2022, and the book Character. This book was created in collaboration with graphic designer Joris Kritis and supported by Julidans. You are welcome to attend the book launch at the ITA rotonde Sunday 7 July at 13:00.

Character

Character is an artist's book wherein a danced alphabet transforms into a type specimen. The book originated from a collaboration between choreographer and dancer Femke Gyselinck, graphic designer Joris Kritis, and photographer and filmmaker Robbrecht Desmet.

The shapes danced by Gyselinck jump, turn and twist, but her body purposely doesn’t bend to illustrate the letters from A to Z. It is through Kritis’ visual configurations of the photographs that reading with the danced alphabet begins. As you flip through the pages, iconic logos, calligrams, graphic designs, and concrete poetry merge.
-|-For the BOEKS presentation, the collaboration extends to include architect Asli Çiçek for the scenography and researcher Emma Meerschaert for assistance in curating a book display that examines the creation of and reflection on Character across various domains.

During the book presentation you have the possibility to see the scenography of books. There will also be a conversation between astistic director of Julidans Anita van Dolen and Femke Gyselinck about her book Character and the reference books of the installation. The book will be sold at the Julidans shop in the infohal.
