L.A.V.A.
In L.A.V.A., ICK Dans Amsterdam and Scenario Pubblico | Compagnia Zappalà Danza bring together two distinct choreographic worlds. It is an encounter that has already been in the making for years: The paths of Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten (ICK) and that of Roberto Zappalà have crossed repeatedly, linked by a distinctive vision of dance and the creation of spaces for research, training and development.
From Catania, in the shadow of Mount Etna, Zappalà and his company developed a physical, collective movement practice, brought together in MoDem (Movimento Democratico). At its heart lies the body as a living archive: shaped by daily movement, instinct and imperfection.
-|-At ICK, movement arises from breath, tension and impulse. Dancers move on the boundary between control and surrender, precise and raw at the same time. The body does not execute steps, but is in a state of constant flux, like a landscape under pressure. Salvador Breed’s soundscape amplifies this tension: electronic textures that guide and disrupt.
Bodies that collide, recoil, cling to one another – and in that friction release something that is neither one thing nor the other. Thus, L.A.V.A. demonstrates how vitality arises: not from harmony, but from difference. The audience is not at a safe distance; the eruption unfolds all around them.

Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten
Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten have been collaborating since 1995 on an internationally acclaimed body of work that encompasses dance, theatre, opera and film. Their work takes the body as its source: intuitive, exploratory and physically intense. With a distinctive movement vocabulary, codified in Les Sept Nécessités (1996), they pushed the boundaries of contemporary dance. In 2021, they received the VSCD Golden Swan Lifetime Achievement Award.
Roberto Zappalà
Roberto Zappalà founded his company in Sicily in 1990 and has since created more than 85 works.
