Julidans 2021 ticket sales start 10 June
The summer of 2021 gives the stage to the 30th edition of Julidans. From 1 to 16 July, the festival shows the current developments in international contemporary dance. After a year that has been dominated by lockdowns and live streams, Julidans presents an outspoken program that can be experienced live in theaters.
Julidans 2021 takes shape under the motto NEVER STOP DANCING. Different generations of choreographers inspire each other, create cross overs with other art forms or respond to social themes. Various locations in Amsterdam, with International Theater Amsterdam as the epicenter, present the great masters, enfants terribles and new icons of contemporary dance. Groundbreaking, daring and surprising performances inspire both the connoisseur and the curious mind.

NEVER STOP DANCING
Julidans is known for its groundbreaking dance programme. The festival shows dance makers from various countries and (dance) cultures and is known for presenting different approaches to dance. A selection from the 2021 programme:
The 30th edition of Julidans opens with the enigmatic spectacle “Elenit” by the up-and-coming Greek choreographer Euripides Laskaridis. The performance combines dance, theatre, performance, happening and installation into a dazzling experience that evolves from the everyday to the absurd and disturbing. Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, together with the acclaimed Russian pianist Pavel Kolesnikov starts a dialogue with Bach’s The Goldberg Variations. -|-De Keersmaeker, who also appeared in the very first edition of Julidans, dances this performance herself. Among others, the programme includes performances by the Brazilian makers Marcela Levi & Lucía Russo, the Belgian Jan Martens, the Swiss-Greek Alexandra Bachzetsis and the Greek Christos Papadopoulos.
The jubilee edition of Julidans features many Dutch choreographers. Julidans proudly presents premieres by Arno Schuitemaker, Vincent Riebeek, Liat Waysbort, Sarah Huygens Jawla and Igor Vrebac.

During the festival, dance spreads like an oil slick through Amsterdam – in addition to International Theater Amsterdam, you will encounter Julidans in Theater Bellevue, Melkweg Theater, Bijlmerpark Theater, Podium Mozaïek, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and at surprising locations in the city. Meervaart Theater joins this year for the first time as Julidans location.
